4th Grade Science

April 9th, 2019

4th grade scientists are deep into their energy unit. We have learned about potential and kinetic energy and many subcategories within those two types of energies. I went to the Montshire for a day of training. I was trained on a fun unit on electricity. I was SOOO excited to begin the unit with the 4th grade and as soon as I started it, the 4th graders quickly let me know they did a similar unit last year in 3rd grade. So, as teaching goes, I quickly adjusted. Students were so excited to work with the same materials that I decided that it was worth it to continue with the electricity unit and to just build off of what they already know from last year. They are so engaged and loving it. We are focusing a lot on making sure we are recording our observations and making diagrams of the experiments that we are testing. On Monday they were testing our different conductors. We will continue exploring what makes something a conductor and what doesn't this week!

Our Montshire visit the week after break will most likely conclude this unit. Students will be doing a workshop on how to build a better battery!
